Specializations and job openings

Specializations – A brief overview

From the second semester of the second year of the degree onwards, LLCER students are invited to choose a specialization, in the form of two teaching units per semester. In order to be coherent pedagogically speaking, students cannot change their specialization between their second year and their third year. The aim is to discover a business sector in order to prepare further studies and therefore it aims at professionalization. Five specializations are offered, respectively on the campuses of Nancy or Metz.

Specializations related to teaching

The “Teaching” specialization is divided into four choices:

  1. The “Secondary Education and Research” specialization (in Nancy) aims at teaching English in secondary education and at university, as well as at academic research. This specialization prepares students for the examinations for secondary school postings, such as the French CAPES and agrégation of English. This specialization enables students to continue their studies at the master’s level in what is called in France a MEEF master’s (related to education and teaching), or even in the “Langues et Sociétés” Master’s, oriented towards the English-speaking worlds and jobs related to books, texts and materialities. To have more information on this specialization, please click here.

  2. The “Primary education” specialization (in Nancy and Metz) aims at primary education. The MEEF Master’s about Primary Education is the natural continuation of studies after this specialization. To have more information on this specialization, please click here.

  3. The “French Foreign Language” specialization (in Nancy and Metz) aims at teaching French abroad or to foreigners. A Master’s degree in Didactics of Languages is the natural continuation after this specialization.

  4. The “Deepenings and Disciplinary crossings” specialization (in Metz) is aimed at teaching and research.

This specialization can lead to typical jobs related to education, namely: certified or associate professor of English in a secondary school, teacher in a primary school, lecturer, Ministry of National Education inspector, assistant principal, head of school, librarian in a school, etc.

And otherwise?

In addition, a LLCER degree opens doors to competitive exams, including those for certain business schools, for the public service (category A or B), but also for libraries.

Furthermore, it is also important to know that in the LLCER Bilingual/Bicultural degree, specializations related to teaching are not available.
